Finding Hope Amid Life's Struggles

Have you ever felt like the weight of the world is crushing you? Like no matter how hard you try, you’re stuck in a cycle of pain and hopelessness? Maybe it’s financial struggles, health challenges, marital strife, disruptions at home, or an addiction you feel powerless to break—whatever it is, it feels like a prison. If you’re feeling discouraged today, I want you to know there is hope. I’ve been where you are.

Two years ago, I was angry, lost, and trapped in a cycle of hopelessness. My second marriage was crumbling, and I was drowning in alcoholism and pornography. I thought if I could just get my kids to eighteen, I’d finally find peace in retirement. But deep down, I knew I was spiraling.

One night, standing in front of the mirror, I saw the full weight of my failures. I was the king of my broken kingdom, wearing the invisible crown of pride and self-reliance. All attempts to correct my course led back to the same dark place—convincing myself there was only one haunting way out.

The next morning, those chilling thoughts were still fresh in my mind. I realized I had to make a choice: keep running my life into the ground or surrender to God’s grace. Standing in the shower, the weight of my guilt and shame hit me like never before. I saw clearly that my self-reliance had made me an enemy of God, deserving eternal separation from His presence.

But at my lowest point, I remembered Jesus’ promise.  ‘Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.’  Also, that He would take our burdens if we would follow Him.  It was at the lowest point in my life, in that moment, that I prayed for God’s forgiveness, begging Him to carry my burdens, and be the leader of my life.

Surrendering to Jesus wasn’t about saying a quick prayer or checking off a list—it was about giving up control and trusting Him completely. It meant dying to my old self and choosing to follow Him every day, no matter the cost. But in losing my life, I found it. And the peace and purpose I now have are worth everything.

I don’t have a perfect formula for you—only God knows the next steps for your journey. But I can tell you this: if you seek Him, you will find Him. Jesus said, ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.’ It’s not easy, but it’s worth it. True life begins when you surrender to Him.

If you’re searching, don’t give up. God’s love is bigger than your past, and His grace is closer than you think. He’s ready to meet you right where you are. If you’d like to talk, I’d be honored to listen and walk with you on this journey. You’re not alone.

Until next time…God bless…
